In 1963 on the east side of what is now Highway 427, the Valhalla Inn opened to become one of Toronto's first "motor inns." There was definitely a touch of whimsy gracing this inn, with a Mermaid Lounge where guests could sit at the bar and watch women in mermaid tails swim around in the pool through air tight windows. Outside, a tame herd of deer would roam the courtyards, an almost fantastical view against the Scandinavian design of the building. While the quirky atmosphere made it a hot spot in its day, it was not able to keep up with the times and slowly became dated, leading to its eventual demolition.

Although it is sad to see interesting places like this go, a new condo will be paying homage to the Valhalla Inn, even incorporating some of the old inn's heritage artifacts. Triumph at Valhalla will be adding elegance to the area, and a wonderful option within the Etobicoke real estate market. There are plenty of schools nearby, and transportation is convenient.
